Lunar New Year is a time for families to gather and share good fortune through red envelopes, symbolic foods and dishes, firecrackers to ward off bad spirits, and cleaning rituals that “sweep away” misfortune. To celebrate the new Panda Family Meal, Panda Express set out to share these traditions with all guests, especially those less familiar with the holiday.

To bring the 2022 Lunar New Year to life, we created an interactive 8-bit experience called The Good Fortune Arcade. This nostalgic game featured multiple panda-filled levels, cultural easter eggs, real-life redemption codes, and a playful way to discover the meaning behind traditional lucky dishes.

Streamers and influencers began playing the game, and within just a few weeks, more than 400,000 players generated over 500,000 unlocked coupons.

Some locations brought the Good Fortune Arcade to life even further by re-skinning the storefront and planting playable standup arcade games inside.
